Listening – the Heart of Homeopathy

Listening is often spoken about as if it’s just a personality trait. As if some people are naturally “good listeners.” But in clinical work, listening is a skill.

It’s developed over years.

It’s the ability to hear not only what is being said — but what is not being said.

It’s noticing when someone laughs while describing something painful.

It’s recognising when anger is protecting something far more vulnerable.

It’s understanding that the words someone uses about their health often mirror the words they use about their life.

Quick prescribing is easy.

Deep listening is not.

Real listening requires focus.

It requires restraint.

It requires the discipline not to jump in with solutions too quickly.

Because if you listen long enough, patterns emerge.

And when patterns emerge, the prescription becomes clear.

This is the part of homeopathy that can’t be rushed.

And it’s the part I value most.
